Platinum sustainability rating for India’s new Pune office

The Johnson Controls office that opened in Pune, India, last year has earned a platinum rating for its green standards. The national stamp of approval came from the Indian Green Building Council (IGBC), whose Green New Buildings rating system addresses national priorities and encourages designers to apply green concepts to reduce environmental impact.

Green building is the practice of designing, constructing, and operating buildings that maximize occupant health and productivity, use fewer resources, reduce waste and negative environmental impact, and decrease life cycle costs. We took all of this into account when we constructed our new office in Pune,” said Shrikant Bapat, general manager and country head, Buildings, India.

Following in the footsteps of our teams in global HQ and Asia HQ, the Pune team set their sights on designing a sustainable office right from the start. K Raghavan, director, Channel Sales and Key Accounts, led a task force to look into eco design, water conservation, interior materials, indoor environment needs, and innovation in interior design. Taking an integrated approach, and factoring in the life cycle impact of the resources used, they implemented a host of sustainable solutions that have garnered the office 78 points in the IGBC rating program, surpassing the 70 required for platinum certification.

Today, the Pune office enjoys the combined benefits of solutions including simplex, access controls, CCTVs, AHU, VAV, griller, diffusers, louvers, ducts, 3-in-1 CO2 sensors, sprinklers, DX units, and my workspace, which help minimize energy consumption. These solutions have also made the office an ideal showcase where potential customers can experience our solutions.
